Tee Ball Info

Tee Ball is our 7U division, meaning players must be no older than 7 before the end of December in the season they are playing. Tee Ball covers two years so players may join in the year they turn 6. For many this will be their first introduction to baseball or their second year after an introduction in Blastball.

We divide the division further into Tee Ball and Super-T

Tee Ball

Tee ball (formerly Rally Cap) is an introductory level of baseball for first and second year players.  Players will hit off a tee and all players will field and bat each inning.  This division is designed to encourage active participation of all players while developing baseball skills of all levels and fostering a love of the game. 

Tee ball goals are:

  • Have fun and promote confidence
  • Introduction and development of fundamentals of baseball: throwing, catching,  hitting, base running
  • Players will learn and play all positions on the field

TABA will provide all the field gear.  Your child will need a glove, helmet, grey baseball pants, cleats or runners and a bat.  Please see our equipment page for information on bats.  This division requires a lot of parent involvement, so bring your gloves and positivity with you.  Coaches will be provided practice materials and training sessions for new coaches with continued support through the season.

Tee Ball Rules

  1. Jerseys and hats are supplied by TABA and should be worn to all practices and games.  Full uniforms should be worn to games including pants, belts and socks.
  2. Base runners, batter, and on-deck batter must wear batting helmets with chinstraps properly attached. Players may wear running shoes or molded rubber cleats (soccer cleats are accepted)
  3. Each team is responsible to clean up the field after practices and games
  4. The coaches are responsible to set up the field for games. After the last game coaches are to make sure all equipment used during the game is returned to the storage area and locked up. All equipment will be provided by TABA.
  5. Base paths are set at 50 feet with the pitchers mound set 42 feet from the tip of home plate.
  6. Equipment is NOT to be used for any activity that is not TABA sanctioned. Only the coaches and the executive will be given access to the equipment boxes.
  7. Coaches are responsible for the behaviour of their team players, fans and parents during games and to make sure there is no abuse of the equipment. INAPPROPRIATE LANGUAGE AND BEHAVIOUR WILL NOT BE TOLERATED.  It is the responsibility of the coach to notify TABA of any major issues that occur at the ball park immediately following the game and/ or practice.
  8. Games postponed due to rain will be considered a non-event, unless coaches wish to schedule a make-up game through the division coordinator.  It is the coaches’ discretion when to call a game or practice due to darkness, field condition or weather, and the coaches responsibility to notify the team manager and team.
  9. Each player is required to have a guardian at the field at ALL times. If the players parent is not able to remain for the entire game/ practice the coach must be notified as to who will be responsible for the player. 
  10. Each game shall be 3 – 4 full innings with no new inning started after 1 hour.
  11. Each game should end with a base race.
  12. The ball will be hit off the tee only, until May 16.  After May 16, batters will be given the option of moving away from the tee and coaches will soft toss pitch to players.  If the batter does not hit after 3 attempts, the tee will be required for an additional 3 attempts.   
  13. All players will be included in the batting order. A team’s turn at bat will consist of every player batting. After each game up to bat, a team will put its first batter to the bottom of the lineup for the next game
  14. Each hitter gets a maximum of 5 baseballs. If the fifth ball is not hit then the coach will roll a baseball into the field to allow the hitter to run the bases and for the defense to try and make a play. This rule is designed to keep the game moving.
  15. The coach of the team up to bat should be stationed near the tee to assist batters 
  16. Fielding coaches are required at pitcher and first base, with additional coaches and parents (coaches discretion) throughout the field.  
  17. Coaches must switch players to different positions from inning to inning, alternating positions. Each player shall be given an opportunity to play every position BEFORE playing a position for the second time. 
  18. When the ball is hit players are required to throw the ball to first base. After each play is completed, first baseman must throw the ball to the coach
  19. There are NO OUTS in Tee Ball.
  20. Runners are not allowed to advance more than one base at a time 
  21. There are no walks, no strikeouts, no base stealing.

Super T

Super T (formerly Rally Cap) is an introductory level of baseball with room to provide further training to players in their 2nd or 3rd year of baseball.  Pitching machines and outs are introduced, while the focus remains on fun and baseball skills.  Coaches at this level will introduce and model competitiveness, with a strong emphasis on sportsmanship.   Pitching machine readiness will be assessed by coaches in communication with players and parents, and dedicated practices may be provided.  

Super T goals are:

  • Have fun and increase confidence
  • Development of baseball fundamentals: throwing, catching, hitting, base running
  • Introduction to the pitching machine

TABA strives to provide opportunities and development at all skill levels, but the divisions are based on registration numbers and volunteers.  In some years, Tee Ball and Super Tee may be combined and teams will be balanced by experience and birth year.  Each player will train and develop skills at their comfort, and coaches will work with all players to provide a fun and rewarding baseball experience. In this case, an increase in technical development may see extra sessions for experienced players outside of team practices.  This will depend on volunteer coaches and TABA will provide support and opportunities to all interested players.

  10. Each game shall be 4 – 6 full innings with no new inning started after 1 hour and 15 minutes.
  11. Prior to May 16, games should consist of 2 innings hitting from a tee, followed by innings of coaches pitching to batters.  From May 16 onwards, games should consist of 2 innings with coaches pitching, followed by innings of a pitching machine. 
  12. Each game should end with a base race.
  13. All players will be included in the batting order. Placement of players in the batting order should be rotated each game. A team’s at bat will consist of every player batting, regardless of how many outs are recorded. 
  14. Each hitter gets a maximum of 5 baseballs. 
    • 3 pitches from the coach followed by 2 attempts to hit off the tee
    • 3 pitches from the pitching machine followed by 2 pitches from the coach
    • Coaches may use their discretion to use a tee after May 16 using player comfort and preference as a guide. Focus is to be on building skills and confidence, and getting the balls into play to foster development of players batting and fielding.
  1. Fielding coaches are required at pitcher and first base, with additional coaches and parents (coaches discretion) throughout the field.  
  2. Coaches must switch players to different positions from inning to inning, alternating between infield and outfield.
  3. Runners are not allowed to advance more than one base at a time 
  4. There are no walks, no strikeouts, no base stealing.
  5. After May 16, outs may be called.
  6. Super T players may be called up to play on a Tadpole team a maximum of 3 games plus one tournament. The Super-T & Tadpole Coordinators, will coordinate call-ups to ensure eligibility and fairness. The player must receive the same treatment as regular players, must not play more innings than a regular team player and must not pitch.  
  7. All BC Minor Baseball rules will be in effect, but TABA rules take precedence.
